We are only strangers in this world if we are Christians

Martyn Lloyd-Jones

We are only strangers in this world if we are Christians. Paul says “Our citizenship is in heaven.” Someone has translated it, “We are a colony of heaven,” which amounts to the same thing. It means that our polity, as it were, our homeland, our seat of government, is there; our citizenship is in heaven! We are in this world still, but if we are Christians we do not belong to it; we do not belong to its mind, its outlook, its organization; we are strangers and pilgrims, we are people away from home. We are people who are simply living here on a passport; we do not belong here. Our Lord has said it clearly for us in His great high-priestly prayer; He says,
…”They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.”

  1. I love this 🙂
It is liberating to move from thinking via the earthly into a heavenly dynamic. Suddenly everything oozes with life in abundance. Grace and peace in Christ

    • To submit (through the Holy Spirit’s power) to the sovereign will of God, is liberating and the freedom one receives is awesome. It frees us up to live our lives as they are supposed to be lived, for God’s glory alone. In living this God-centered life, we enjoy provision, peace and courage in every circumstance.

  2. Amen! Scripture – the Word of God – ALONE is the source for our way as pilgrims on earth – and it is the SUFFICIENT source for it, to equip us perfectly for every good work and to keep our eyes, hearts and minds focused (2Tim 3:15-17). Thank you for this hint!
